Is my chocolate lab going to be in a lot of pain when she gets her leg amputated?
Three days ago my husband accidentallyly drove over our 2yr. old chocolate lab. Vet says she has brachial plexus avulsion. (the nerves in her right leg that are connected to her spinal cord in her neck were stretched) He is going to amputate in about two weeks. This is so devastating for us. We are extremely grateful to God that our baby is alive.
I used to work at my local RSPCA, we had a staffie who had been really badly treated and had a mangled leg.
We tried for weeks to help it heal but eventually he had to have it amputated. The dog had been miserable and moped about with his sore leg and as soon as it was gone he was a different dog – like he’d always had 3 legs and was really happy that way.
I’m sure your dog will be the same. Dogs tend to live in the moment and your dog is likely to just get on with her life as she will be then.
